Yesterday (Thursday), Heather and I attended a meeting at the Fire Hall in Port Lorne.

We moved to Middleton (from Paradise — see First Blog Post) a couple of years ago. In that time, we have noticed a significant increase in vacant stores on the Main Street. Our concern is whether the county has a strategy to address this issue (see also The Hollowing Out of Rural Nova Scotia).
At the meeting, we were able to pick up a range of publications that are useful for exploring our geography.
- Explore Annapolis County
- Delaps Cove Wilderness Trail
- Nictaux Walking Map (see other walking maps)
- Annapolis County Outdoor Recreation Map
- Canoe Annapolis County (third edition)
- Fire Smart. Begins at Home Guide.
What is the next step for a couple of retired ‘academics’: Botany and Geography.
Can we contribute to ‘Dream IT, Build IT, Grow IT within the ‘creative rural economy’ ?
When we left the meeting, we had to face the challenge of driving in the dark, back to Middleton. I have long forgotten that experience.
My next step will be to contact Joy O-Neill, Economic Development Officer, with the link to my blog post:

Stay tuned.
Edward : thank you for your continuing support and encouragement.
